Thank You
« on: April 24, 2017, 01:11:18 PM »
Howdy from Cody Wyoming. Just a quick note to say hello. I've just become interested in cast iron after my aunt and uncle passed away and I inherited their cast iron. H.W. Brown H.W. CO. from Galveston, TX.  I'm looking forward to learning more.

Thanks,
Dave~

That is a wonderful peace of iron.  I have never seen any piece marked Galveston, TX before. Prior to the 1900 hurricane that wiped out the island, it was known as the wall street of the south.  There was a lot of industry and business there.  After the hurricane, it did not recover and Houston went on the become the major port of entry.  Thank you very much for posting these photos.  That is a great piece of history.  I wish I knew something about it.

JS Brown (son of JM Brown) was president...it is JS Brown HW (hardware) Co. They were dealers & importers. Not known (to me ) who actually made the piece, but it is very interesting! A few tidbits on JS Brown Hardware Co....the building was listed here

I'm not sure where I got the "H.W. Brown"...it's obviously marked J.S. Brown...  I'll post some additional photos tomorrow. It has a special place on our dining room table. I've only cooked with it once...and I don't know if I should again...comments appreciated

With a piece like that, I have to disagree with most of you, it should be used on a regular basis, biscuits/apricot cobbler, and each time it is used remember your Aunt & Uncle.
