I picked up a number 8 deep chicken fryer skillet with lid that is unmarked with the exception of a letter X under the handle, This piece is a real beast weighing over 11 1/2Lbs, Has an outside heat ring and a handle with an unusual roundish hole, Any ideas on who made this piece.

Is this a Wagner Long Life Skillet, The handle looks very similar to the Long Life Skillets, Did the long life skillets all have smooth bottoms or did some have heat rings.

The bottom is pretty cruddy but I have looked at it very closely and I do not see any markings other than the X on the underside of the handle

Hi Marge, Thank you, Any idea when this was made, When did Wagner Ware stop making pieces with heat rings, Was this made during the same period the Long Life skillets were made.

With eBays 10% final value fee on shipping it makes it impossible to ship for exact cost so I always add in enough to cover both the FVF and packaging materials as I refuse to lose money on shipping, If I add too much and the shipping is less I will refund a part but I just won't lose money on shipping, I would rather not sell than lose money. The irony is that eBay used to have a policy where they encouraged buyers to report members who were felt were trying to make a profit on shipping and now it is eBay who is making a profit on the shipping.

Can anyone give an apx date range on this skillet, It has an outside heat ring so when did Wagner stop making skillets with an outside heat ring, It has the Long Life style handle so does that put it in the same time frame as the long life skillets.(1930-40's)
Finally I mistakenly indicated this was a number 8, It is considerably larger than a number 8, I have it in the lye bath right now so I can't measure but it is in there with a lodge number 8 deep skillet and the lodge fits inside of it with about 1/2" or more on each side, Is there any info on actual sizes of these deep fryers.
My guess is it is a number 9 or 10, Could the X on the underside of the handle actually be the size in Roman numerals X= 10
