PN# 945 on a Wafer Iron.
« on: April 09, 2015, 09:50:04 PM »
I found this old Wafer type iron today, and the reason I bought it was the number 945 incised on it. Quick research found that the #945 is present on the no.7 Gem pan. Has anyone seen a shared pn (besides the famous 961). And could this be an Erie/Griswold iron?

I believe you have a Gaufrette or Lukken iron.  A cookie popular in France and Belgium.  Most likely a European iron.  There should be a base for it to sit on.  I'm not aware of a Griswold products like this.

Vol. 2 of the L&W Griswold book shows a listing of about 45 duplicate pattern numbers on page 132, and there are probably more. For instance the duplicates  of pattern 961 is not listed but we know they happened.

I don't know of any Griswold made iron that looks like the one you show.

I was expecting to see a waffle pattern inside. It has the heavy guage wire handles like the No. 21 American by Griswold. There was another iron in the shop with the same inside pattern and it had a European mark on it.

Here's a link to a new one that shows the handles and base.
