pan with heat ring that rocks CAN be fixed.
« on: December 23, 2014, 11:24:49 AM »
don't know if this is the right place to put this, but if not, Cheryl will fix it.
to fix a pan with heat ring that rocks is so simple its amazing.
find a auto body shop and ask if someone has an airboard.
an airboard is about 18 inches long and it is used on long areas of auto bodys to keep the body flat with no ripples. explain the rocking problem, and that should cover it.

I have retired also, until i die, which we hope isn't soon.
QUESTION, has anybody ever been buried with their C I collection?

I don't plan on being buried with my collection but right now I'm buried by it.  ;)

Just make sure you pick pall bearers that you don't like ;)

I have a piece of quartz countertop approx 15 inches square. I put about 5 pieces of stickyback andpaper 5" dia. discs on one side. If it is a very slight wobble, you can set the skillet on the sandpaper and twist back and forth. On a bigger wobble, your method would work better

The entertainment factor with bowed pans is whatever you cook, ends up in the centre. That's not a problem for hash and such but when you're cooking the likes of snarlers and eggs, now that is another kettle of fish :)
Removing material to eliminate the bow is a valid option but cooking on high heat would likely be out of the question; would it invite further bowing due to the thinner centre section of the base???
Plus your snarlers and eggs would still be sliding to the centre ;)

So maybe there is hope for this guy, but I don't think there is enough heat ring.

That pan is designed specially for when you have had too much to drink, The warp compensates for distorted vision due to over consumption of alcohol ;D

You might be able to fix it with a blast furnace :o

Cast iron at its extreme plastic limit??

Did you fall asleep at the campfire Tom? ;)
On the positive; if it's not cracked it will serve as an  interesting gong

I don't think Robert or I were talking about removing any metal from the center of a pan. Pans that are bowed up or down in the middle cannot be fixed.
We were both talking about pans with a heat ring having a slight wobble. Slight is the critical word here. Usually there is one part of the heat ring that is just a little higher that the rest. You will never be able to tell with a straight edge, only by putting on something flat like granite or glass, then pushing down on the edge

I have a DO that is a spinner and I borrowed my wife's WOK support ring........ Weeble wobbled but it didn't fall down.... Or spun around on my ceramic top range anymore[ch127859]

Also, a question. Does anyone use a heat diffuser? On a ceramic top range?
