I may be in denial...
« on: January 02, 2015, 07:14:39 AM »
I keep telling myself that i am not a collector -- just buying cast iron pieces for users. If my New Years Day acquisition is any indication of how the year is headed, I may need an intervetion. ;)
I found this DO on CraigsList -- just "too good of a deal" to pass up.  The real problem is that my lye bath is frozen rock solid with our sub-zero temps. It is probably a bad sign that I am having a hard time sleeping without knowing for sure what I have until spring.

Nice find, Dave. I'm not really seeing that much crud. If that were mine I think I'd go straight to electrolysis with it...if you have one set up.

Dave you can try INTERVENTION but may not work if you have the CI addiction. As for the frozen Lye bath just stack all you good find's up and wait till spring and a thaw. The DO looks like a keeper.
I am far enough west that my lye & electrolysis get quit but still work out in the 3 sided wood shed. and i still have a pile of CI.

Unless the inside of that DO is all carboned up, I'd use a vinegar bath on it and use an SOS pad on it. It will look great if you do. It looks to me like it does not need a lye bath. But as been said on here many times, but I'll say it again, if you have a good lye bath set up, you can eliminate a whole lot of needing the electro. But most folks setting up an electro for the first time, they go around and FIND things that they can electro.  ;D

My New Years Resolution is this. From now on I am going to take my beer and cigarette money and buy cast iron with it. Lets see, three packs of cigarettes at five dollars each, thats fifteen dollars a day, and then say five more dollars for six pack of beer, so thats twenty dollars per day, times seven for the week, so thats a hundred and forty dollars per week, times fifty weeks in a year comes out to seven thousand dollars per year. That ain't that much. So I MIGHT start drinking and smoking more so that I can increase my cast iron budget.  :-/

Hello Cheryl. I quit drinking a long long time ago. What quit me on drinking was the hangovers. They got longer and meaner. Now I ain't sayin I won't take a drink.

Last drink I had was way out there your way. My son wanted me to try this beer, it was draft and they made it right there, one of them places. I took a couple drinks of it and told him I was gonna throw it away. He drank the rest.

Cheryl I ain't got any bad habits like a upstanding respectable man ought to have. :-[ I'd run women, but my fears are if I caught one I'd be like the dog chasin the car. What are you gonna do with it after you caught it?  :-/ ;D ;D ;D
