I actually have a Griswold chicken fryer that has flowers painted on the bottom.....the lady sold it to me for $8 since there were a few scratches in the paint LOL

These were a bit of a challenge... 2 + weeks in the lye bath, only took off part of the paint... time for the Zip Strip.... and then back to the lye bath...

Bottoms up... :)

Cheryl you sure do a good job at cleaning your iron. Thanks for sharing the fruits of your labor with us. I have a lot of cleaning iron that needs to be done. When can I drop off a load?  :o ;D

If you keep cleaning your cast iron like that, I will have faith that there will be pristine vintage cast iron in every kitchen in America, even if only to heat up baby formula :)

Great job again, Cheryl.

Since I'm only a couple of hours from you now, I think I'll bring you all my crud covered iron to do instead of setting up a lye bath myself.  ;)

Cheryl.....were those spray painted or brush painted?  The fry pan I have is just brush painted on the bottom....the rest of the pan is untouched, thankfully....

.....should I use a chemical stripper rather than the lye?

These appeared to have been spray painted... multiple coats.

I have learned to save myself some grief, and usually pull out the Zip Strip first, and then scrub down good, and then the lye bath to remove grease and remnants.

(With these toys, I was leaving for extended time, and no time to zip strip, so into the lye bath... and still did not remove it all... )
