Griswold waffle iron
« on: April 10, 2020, 08:13:54 PM »
Can you help with date range for production of this type of waffle iron?

Block logo.  No patented date on paddles.  Paddles are pattern # 151N.  Think the N signifies the change to screwed on handle coils.

All in all, think these characteristics mean a "newer" piece..

Also, a tall base with pattern # 153A.

Thanks.

I looked in the books but can't help you out here. I did want to comment on the spring handles though. Spring handles should not be seasoned with the cast iron parts. For the sake of the springs, clean them separately and just use mineral oil or polish on them, not heat.

Thanks Russell.

I usually put 3 "layers" of seasoning a each piece I restore, so unfortunately, the coils have already been subjected to the heat.  However, they seem ok.

Do you have a suggestion for removing the coils?  There is no "play" in them.  I think there is a "notch"/tab at the end for them to "click" into place.

If you compress the coils ever so slightly, then the rod that goes through the center of them will unscrew and the coils will come off. It may be difficult to get the rods to turn as age may have seized them up, but they will come out.
