« on: January 06, 2018, 05:52:05 PM »
I need some help identifying.
Also...
What's the deal with those points on the inside of the lid?
Any and all replies welcomed.
Thanks, y'all!

Hi Robert, looks like an early Lodge D. O. The points are Basting points.
Nice find and should clean up well.

Thanks for the information,  JA!
A Lodge dutchie works for me. Been looking for one, not necessarily a Lodge just a Dutch, for some time. Was very happy to pick this guy up for $20. I'll get some post restoration photos up soon.
Thanks again for the reply...

Lodge lid for sure(old one). Question the bottom though as older Lodge D/O's had heat rings and bail is different. Could be a "marriage" Need closer look at bottom & bail. :-/
Priced RIGHT for a #9!

Oooooohhh! A mix and match. Spicy.
Here's a couple pics.
As you can see the "edge" of the bottom looks like its been "welded".
As for the markings...
There's a 9 or a 6 or a lower case g.
What do you think?
Also thanks for the reply!

Robert can you post a better picture of the bail attachment? Top and bottom.
Thanks,

The bail attachment looks older Griswold to me or a copy thereof, What you are calling a weld I think may be a sand shift when it was cast

That's an older Lodge bottom. The lid and bottom go together, nice find.

Cool. Thanks for the info!
I figured it was a little older (whatever it was) being there was no Made In USA stamp.
Thanks again for the reply...

Duke you're the one that asked to see the bail attachment and that was the telling piece of the puzzle.

Here's a pic of the lid after seasoning...
How old could this thing actually be?
50? 60? 70?

Perhaps you're right.
Let me see what the old ball and chain has to say about that.
She's been talking about a cast iron embargo, of sorts.
