Axford combination skillet cover and skillet
« on: August 22, 2015, 02:21:22 PM »
I have not seen very many on e-bay "sold or for sale"
Are they that uncommon? What about the Grill Skillet they were made for? I pickup the skillet cover the other day and I do mean "Pickup :D out the middle of road" good thing the traffic was light. Has a small road rash and dose not set flat by about a 32nd of an inch.

I just picked one up from a friend. I assume the lid is original. It's in very good condition, unfortunately the bottom isn't very flat. Pardon the oily look and the schmutz all over the bottom, this guy only cleans his CI and then coats them in oil.

John, it looks like you have two "lids" there. :)

The Axford combination cover, and a Griswold/Wagner hinged skillet lid.  :)

I knew I had seen that logo somewhere before, and I finally found it...the Red book (Lodge section) p. 227. It's called a cover there, and suggests that it might be the Lodge's answer to the double skillet.  (Maybe this has been addressed somewhere else here, but I couldn't find it.)

[edit: Never mind my ignorance!]

Oops. Cheryl posted while I was typing...

Very interesting! I wonder what the "lid" fits then?

Well, within my own pile of user CI, I discovered that the "GrisWag" lid fits perfectly on a Wagner #8 (1058). The Axford lid doesn't fit anything I have, but at least the GrisWag lid fits it pretty well.

So what is the Axford lid intended to fit?

Thanks!

John, the Griswold style hinged skillet lid looks like it may have the clean easy porcelain coating.  Difficult to say from the angle of the photo.  There may be markings that take a lot of work to see thru the porcelain coating.... :)

It doesn't seem like there's a coating of any sort, just a lot of oil. I can't see any markings at all. I'd love to find a hinged skillet to go with this lid someday! Even my wife, who isn't solidly hooked on CI agrees that would be nice.
