Introduction and Favorite Piqua Kettle (cauldron) Question

Hello My name is Brandon and I am from Montana. I have been lurking quite awhile and have learned a tremendous amount from this site. Thank You. I found a Favorite Piqua #9 kettle, (or cauldron, it has curved sides) yesterday in an antique mall for $75.  It is in pretty good condition and would clean up well. I just don't know if its worth the price. I also don't know what I would use it for. What were they used for originally?

Hello Brandon. Welcome to WAGS. Favorite Piqua Ware made a lot of nice collectible items. It sounds like you have a bulge kettle. Someone smarter than me will have to tell you how to post a picture here. I can do it but to tell you how to do it, I am at a loss. Sorry. :-[

But somebody will be along thats smarter than me and help you out with posting your picture. I'd like to see your piece.  :)

Also if you look at my avatar of blue waffle irons, those were made by Favorite also.

Hello Brandon. Thats a pretty nice piece. I can't see the inside too good. But if you like it and you can clean it up, and the inside is not too bad either, then I think its well worth the 75.00. Thats a nice size and one of the earlier ones done by Favorite. IMO the Smiley faces by Favorite came out later. I say this because I have seen the Smileys with ghosts of the writing like your piece here. Good luck to you Brandon.  :)

I lived just a stone's throw from the boarder of Piqua back in the day and spent almost as much time there as I did Sidney (actually, downtown Piqua was closer to where I lived then was Sidney!). They use to have a great Rendezvous in the late summer and it was the original home of the Mills Brothers, so you know it's a nice little town.

Okay, I'm a Wagner fan for family reasons, but I always liked Piqua Ware. That cauldron is a rare and wonderful find! And you don't need me telling you to take good care of it. But I'm going to anyway. Take good care of it!

Hello Daniel. I am just a stones throw away from Piqua myself, twenty minutes west of Piqua in Fact. So I know the area pretty well. I used to work in Piqua and also Sidney.

After my father's death, my mother decided to move back to her home town. I spent my high school years in Sidney and lived just off County Road 25a on a street named Rush Creek, less than a mile from the Piqua border, though I still attended Sidney High School.

I stayed in Ohio for five years, four in Sidney, one in Fairborn, when I briefly attended Wright State, then moved back to Michigan. I have nothing at all against Ohio, but Michigan always felt more like home.
