Griswold waffle irons. Fixable?

So how hard is it to find a $9 Griswold waffle iron base?

I have an auction tomorrow that has a #9 Griswold waffle iron but they have a #8 base .... sheeeesh!!  >:(  The Pat. date says 1906 or 1908.

The really sad thing is there's a Griswold "The American 1893 waffle iron but the base handle is broken and of course one of the wooden handles are broken as well. I wonder what that would be worth with that damage and if I could get it to work.  :-/

Hello Dave. The waffle iron with the wooden handle missing or broke is not a big deal at all. IMO it does not hurt the price. Now what will match up with something else, there are folks on here that know that chapter and verse, but I am not one of them. I learned about waffle irons a long time ago. And I learned that if it is damaged or is missing parts then walk away. Good luck at the auction. I hope you find something that will work.  :)

Thanks Perry!

The broken Cast Iron handle is the part that had me nervous. I figured I could replace the handle.

The wrong base for the other waffle iron is just annoying and I didn't see anyone selling just bases .... so ... I'm walking away. Walking .... Walking .... Walking ....

The broken wooden handle(that is) .... is what I could replace ... not the cast iron handle of the base.

Ahhh. Thank you for the clarification Dave. And again unless something is very RARE and I mean RARE I would not buy it. The piece that sticks out most in my mind is those little Griswold Facsimile Waffle Irons, most of them have a broken hinge but they still bring big money cause they are RARE in the real sense. Stay awhile and hang with us here Dave. The worse thing that could happen is you might learn something, OR, you can teach us something. I have been a collector for a long time and I'm always ready and willing to learn something new. But I don't want to learn it on FB, unless I have to.  ::) ;D
