Griswold Skillet Griddle 202F strange marks
« on: January 20, 2015, 03:20:38 PM »
I just took a flyer on a skillet griddle on ebay as I have always wanted one.
It had a mark across it that looked like a weld mark. but got it anyway.

I got it in today and the mark is actually two marks on both sides of the pan. it looks just like a teepee, actually cross just before it gets to the edge, almost like a trivet was under the pan or something.
I am stumped.  I don't see any indication of welding. The little patina is missing in these spots but the grain of the iron goes through them without interuption.

Looking at those marks I have a "theory"...

It looks like it was cleaned in a sub-standard electrolysis unit, using a grid or rebar for an anode, which has left shadowing on the iron.

And it may be difficult if not impossible to remove.

We keep warning folks of this, both here, and out in internet land... but it seems to fall on deaf ears.... :(

To me that is not a problem as I bought it for cooking not for display or resale.
So I will run some bacon through it to get it started, and some of my famous scrambled eggs (that my wife can't stand, she likes her watery ones)
So as long as it is ok to cook in, I am good to go.

But that is good to know in case I ever want to buy something for display or resale or investment.  It is all a learning experience

When you season your piece you will cover those marks right up. Thats the 'zebra effect'. You get that when you DON'T set your electro up the way Cheryl advises.
