Star Logo on Pot
« on: March 03, 2010, 09:44:10 AM »
I ran across this pot yesterday and was wondering if the star imprint on the bottom could identify the maker.  It is deeper than most Dutch Ovens I have run across and it has a slightly domed lid.  Also found a waffle iron with a raised DC on the top side; opens from the side with double hinges.
I am so new to this that everything raises  questions.

I don't know about the waffle iron and not much more about the star marking. The star marking shows up every now and then. I believe they are bean pots. At least that is the only ones I have seen. I believe that they come in only one size but again I am not certain of this.  No one knows who made them or when. Some of the cast iron, without some kind of documentation, we will never know who made. But I do have a cover to one. Does your cover look like this?

And could you post a picture of your waffle iron? With a picture maybe we could come up with a answer for you on that one.

Mark:
Yes, the lid does look like yours.  I went back to the shop today and someone had bought the waffle iron and I had failed to take pics of it before it sold.
The bean pot is in decent shape but they want about 90 bucks for it and I figured it was worth maybe half that or less, mostly less.

What you found was a flat bottom kettle with a lid.   Marked like this with no known maker,  you are pretty close with value probably in the $40 dollar range.

Here are a few pictures of mine, the pot measures 6 3/4" tall x 10" wide. I have wondered if this pot was born in a different land.

Picked up a 7 flat bottom kettle with the star.  Both the kettle and lid are marked.

I have heard these may be Lodge due to the shape of the cover and Lodge's use of the star elsewhere, but have not seen anything to corroborate this.  Anyone know where they are from?
Best Regards,
Neal
