Storing/Displaying collections
« on: November 05, 2014, 07:29:49 AM »
Hello,

How do you guys/gals with large collections store your cast iron?  Having been bitten by the bug I'm starting to assemble a growing number of pans and need a solution for storing them.

Thanks

This is in my basement, just stacked up and tagged. Running a dehumidifier keeps them in great condition.

Hello Ray, I asked the same question back in February. Still has some good pics as well as what I came up with...
http://www.griswoldandwagner.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1392588276/20#top

Since then, most hooks have 2 or 3 skillets now, plus a long griddle, a waffle iron, a large enameled Descoware stock pot and a couple more misc CI items.

Cheryl, did you ever get your L angles hung?

I'm picking up a vintage bakers rack tonite, all cast iron with a wooden table. 6 foot tall, 3 feet wide. Looking forward to it.

Will do, hoping it's in good enough shape that I can wash it down and load it up. Could be a paint job coming yet, haven't seen it and only paying $40 for it.

Not a collector, just a cook. Rack is into rafters in 4 places. The rest is on a plant shelf. Sue

My piddly 25 piece accumulation, but all usable. Some still needs seasoning. Rack is lighter than I thought, the wood table is a little bent but will be replaced. Need to get some hangers for it now but I like it, it's functional.

Looks very functional and holds a LOT of iron. If you have that many pieces (or plan to) it might be the way to go. I think it's better displayed though hung with the logo showing. Just my opinion... ;)

Nice... if you have an extra closet or two.

I don't have enough closet space in my itty bitty abode to even THINK about an Iron Closet....... :( :'(

I didn't realize that was in a closet..thought it was some sort of free standing cabinet. Now that could be a possibility maybe..

Looks like Perry likes antique communication devices also.  See that relic on the wall in the first picture with the push buttons and the cord. ;D

Don't pick on Perry - that's backwoods prepared! The new cordless ones are useless in a power failure. I could drag the answering machine over to the generator outlets but I'm lazy, so I have a relic too. Just not so well displayed. Sue

That telephone there, at one time, was the only phone in the house. I was probably twelve years old when we got a phone. And it was put in the kitchen and it was on a party line. So when somebody got on the phone we all paraded into the kitchen because we wanted to hear what was being said. And the person who was makin the call or takin the call took no exception. If you talked on that phone you had an audience.  ;D
