Value of skillets with wooden handles
« on: June 25, 2014, 10:51:56 AM »
I found one with a wooden handle.  I'm just wondering if cast iron skillets with wooden handles tend to sell for more or less than those that are all cast iron?  Thanks,

It all depends.
Many "wood" handled skillets MAY be newer , produced overseas and would have little to no value. Or, be a newer USA produced maker with lower value placed on it.....

Certain Griswold and Wagners and other collectible makers, may have more value, dependent on many factors.  (including condition, size of skillet, era produced, etc. )

Thanks for the reply Cheryl.  It's a Canadian made piece, Findlay.  I have two #9s, one with a wooden handle and one that's all cast iron.  I was wondering which one was worth more.

Tuan, now that you have provided more specific information, I will defer to one of our Canadian CI collectors to answer this one... :) Hopefully one will stop by soon!

Hi Tuan,

I never pay much for any Canadian skillets, but then I do live in New Brunswick too.

The McClary items seem to sell higher than GSW, Smart or Findlay. I have not seen any premium attached to any wooden handled skillets, but I see way, way more iron handles than wooden.
We have a Canadian forum visitor named Mike Goulet who seems to buy and sell, maybe he can help on value. I don't sell much, I just accumulate. :P

As Chris mentioned, there are less wooden handled skillets out there,  but unsure as to wether it means they are worth more.

Would come down to the buyers needs ,  IF they wanted it for a collection, or just a user skillet

So no difference in price.  Thanks Mike and Chris.
