Recent trip to the cast iron junkyard
« on: April 27, 2014, 10:32:28 PM »
My wife and I made a trip to the cast iron junkyard awhile back. I picked up a old Lodge #8 marked skillet, a nice old #6 Wapak, a Wagner Chef skillet, a nice unknown #5 with an incised #5 on the handle It was unusual since there was an indentation and the number was in the indentation.  It has big ears and a smooth bottom. I might be able to ID it when it comes out of the barrel. I also picked up two identical corn bread stick pans. The ears and everything was identical making me wonder if one was just unmarked and the same maker. One has Hardwick Stove Co Cleveland Tn on it, the second one has No 2 Corn bread pan on it. The Hardwick has a casting flaw on the back , but you can still see how the lettering was done, enraving it in the casting flaw. I also picked up a 2 qt BS&R stew pan with lid and a Lodge DO lid. I guess the last picture are Lodge fire dogs, don't appear to have ever been used.

Hardwick Stove cornbread pan and unknown cornbread pan. Anyone on the unknown pan?  Both are identical.

Hard to believe that people just scrap those.
Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.

Wow, ditto what the others said. Unbelievable what gets scrapped. Your gain though, and lots to keep you busy!

I'd be interested in what you find under that 5. It looks very much like a UFO 5 that I have, though the handle number on mine isn't in an indentation, so it's probably different. Either way, I'm always curious about the unknowns.

Thanks for taking the time to post the photos.
