One more skillet Identification!
« on: April 10, 2014, 12:26:28 PM »
I thought I would re-post this skillet...thought maybe it got lost at the bottom of my other thread.

Any thoughts on what this one might be and how old it is?  I think there used to be a logo potentially in the center?  I tried enhancing it and I circled it on the second photo.  Any thoughts are appreciated!

Hello Chance... usually no response means no one knows.

The .8. marking isn't familiar to me at all, and if I've seen it I can't recall it being ID'd.

Once it's cleaned up, any other markings should become more visible and might possibly help in identifying.

I had one of these marked with the dots and 8.  in fact, just sold it couple weeks ago.  when I posted my pic on the forum, there were a few folks that felt it was CHF.  I don't know.

Ok I have to respond. These skillets were I believe made by Favorite piqua Ware. Some people believe that they were made by CHF. Makes a good argument  because the  Logo's , FAVORITE THE BEST TO COOK IN, Favorite Piqua Ware smiley face, MIAMI, etc.,  were  waxed out with the earier pans of Favorite waxed out no doubt by Favorite Piqua. CHF having the Favorite Piqua patterns could wax out logo's and make changes to fit their needs, and they did.

So James you think this is a pretty eay Favorite Piqua skillet?  It sure looks like the ones I looked up. However, I didn't see any others with the two dots. Did they just not put the logo on the earlier ones? When do you think it was made?

Hi Chance,

Part of the fun of this hobby is solving mysteries and identifying previously unknowns.  I personally have many more unknown than known items.

I think in this case, it is still an unknown. it might be Piqua, or it might be CHF, or even maybe someone else made skillets using a skillet from one of these makers as a pattern.

You may get members willing to weigh in with an opinion, but if anyone says they know for sure, then they would need to prove it. Without proof, any guess is just that, a guess.

Jim stated his opinion, and mentioned that not all collectors agree with him. That may be as good as it gets. We have some wonderful, lively discussions about stuff like this on the member's only side, but at the end of the day, we usually agree to disagree.

I personally don't encourage these kind of discussions on the part of the forum that is open to the public, because it all is searchable with Google, and within a week, we start seeing stuff listed on EBay as whatever guess the seller decides to use. I think an "I don't know" is much better than a guess presented as a fact.

Knowledge is power, and misinformation is the enemy of knowledge.

So i got that skillet very cleaned up.  it's seasoning now.  Once it was all clean...the shapes where the logo used to be came out.  There is a rectangular box in the center...whatever was inside it has been faded out.  And above that, at 12 o'clock, there is a baseball diamond shape that also has been faded in the center.  i can post pics later if anyone is interested.  pretty cool piece!  cleaned up great

Chance,

That is a beauty. You are getting better at seasoning. ;)

Yes, you can see the marks that James posted of earlier in the thread. That is where the pattern had been modified to fill in the markings.

Regardless of who made it, they sure did make a nice skillet. I know you are going to like cooking in it. It must be quite a bit lighter than your BSR Century pan.

Be careful, this can get addictive.
