#14 Skillet on the hook ...
« on: March 26, 2014, 10:36:00 AM »
I have an opportunity to buy a #14 skillet. The current owner says it's a Wagner. I think it's one of those pieces made by Wagner from Griswold patterns.

Being basically unfamiliar with these Wagner/Griswold pieces, I need ID confimation, aproximate age and value.

Any input?

It's a Wagner made post 1960's from a Griswold pattern. The box may very well be what it came in. The Wagner 14's are CN 1064 and they could have been shipping the post 60's skillets in the 1064 boxes, I just don't know for a fact. I don't follow values for these post 60 skillets but 14's always seem to be popular. My guess would be in the $100 range.

That is nice Ken, let us know how you did. Like the price on the box!

I went to see this baby yesterday ... and after discussing CI and old family treasures and memories for several minutes, I offered $50 for the skillet. The seller, a very nice and personable man, immediately countered with, "I was thinking more like $70.

"I'll meet ya in the middle", says I ... with only a milisecond's hesitation.

"SOLD!" says he almost as quickly.

We shook hands and money, exchanged more stories of years gone by and family camping trips as kids and fond memories of cooking over camp fires with our moms and dads ... and I was on my way with a new skillet and a new friend.

The skillet is in the lye bath now to remove only the slightest (if somewhat stubborn) grease film. She still has clear, crisp grinding marks from the foundry and I can find not a single pit, chip, scar or sign of abuse.

This is the most I've paid so far for any CI piece but I could not be happier.

Ken, I bought a very similar Wagner #12 a few weeks ago and absolutely love using it.

Great guy. I paid the same last year for a lodge the same size from the same era.
