Help with griddle
« on: March 18, 2014, 06:26:58 PM »
Can anyone identify the maker of this griddle from the markings I took pictures of, or is this one of those one-off unknown forever type pieces?

Thanks, Will!

We're most/all of Lodges griddles marked this way?

Jonathan, as with most CI manufacturers, the markings on all different types of pieces changed over time.   This is just one of the ways we identify the time frames of production, along with other features....(handle styles, pour spout shapes, and................) :)

On these griddles for example, newer Lodge handled griddles could be expected to have additional markings to identify the style, and/ or made in USA, and other logo's  (such as the egg logo) on newer also...

Rick, I'd call this griddle a New Style Griddle.
Looking at the old catalogs, the Old Style Griddle appears to be more similar to a "shallow" skillet style, without a skirt around the outside, but more a smooth continuous casting from bottom to shallow side wall.

When you say "new" style griddle, what's that mean exactly? Does this still fall into the pre-1960 range?

Lodge produced different styles of handled griddles at the same time.

One type they called New Style, the other Old Style.

I'd have to research the catalogs to see what years these 'styles' were offered, but with the markings on yours, I would agree with Will, pre 1960's.

Does that make sense?
