Double Skillet ID ???
« on: January 12, 2008, 01:01:43 PM »
Can anyone help me ID this double skillet set with a hinge.  It has no markings at all.  The handles are a little unusual.  Thanks for any help.  Mike

Note to Perry:  I found one of those buckets that you can put more than one picture in.  :)  Now if it just doesn't have a hole in it. ::)

Looks like my bucket was a little small.  I'll try again.  With a bigger bucket. ;D  Mike

Mike, I believe that is a unmarked Wagner 5 Star Skillet as shown on page 237 of the Blue Book. If I understand correctly some of those were made for sale for Sears. I have one of the fully marked ones and it is almost identical.

Mike, now you know that since you have elevated yourself into the multi picture postin arena, that you and I can no longer be friends. When somebody mentions your name I will have to say, "he was somebody that I "used" to know".  ;D Nice pictures. I'd say if the first set was a gallon, and the next set was a five galloner, you need about a three galloner, and that oughta do it just about fine.  ;)

Thanks Mike,  I will see if I can get this to operate for me also. I hate posting one picture at a time and wasting space.

Mike it just might be a un marked wagner, good photos, fine old casting. My 5 star is (bottom) about  10 3/8". if it is not that size (smaller). check page 246 blue book. It just might be a Vollrath. I have one that is out in the camper. I love and use the two of them. clark

Thanks Clark,  mine is 10 3/8" on the bottom skillet.  Like you I got these to go in the camper and use. Lots of uses with 2 pieces of iron, skillet with lid, 2 open skillets, griddle, the oven in the camper is small so will use the griddle for a shallow baking pan and the set for a shallow dutch oven.  Mike

Ok my W W marked double sk. is 10 3/8". My unmarked double sk. is 10 1/16". Note handles are different. Outher photo showes that the top sk. has them stop tabs, for lack of a better word. Mike has your sk. top have them tabs? IMO Wagner did not make them tabs on there marked pieces? We just might have 3 different sk.s from different foundrieys.

Thanks Clark, I have never seen the Vollrath double skillet before. That is a new one on me but I think you made a mistake and its listed in the Red book instead of the blue book.

Clark here is a couple more pictures of my skillet.  It does not have the tabs on the top piece but the handle is more like your unmarked than the Wagner.  Does anyone know if the unmarked Wagners had the same handle as the marked ones?  Mike

Mike thanks for posting the new photos.Griswold and Wagner, if thay made a cast iron piece that is unmarked, why change any thing else? Example; I have some Wagner Ware Chef Skillets, old style handle that are the same except marked and un marked.
Like we (as in I) said why change the handle?
Maybe we will find the rest of the story some day.  :)
