Turk Head Gem Pan Make??
« on: December 22, 2007, 04:01:28 PM »
Acquired a turk head pan that has a raised letter 30 on the top of one end. Cups are 3/4" X 2". Is VERY close to # 20 Griswold. Can anyone shed any light on the make this would be :-/ Any would be greatly appreciated.
Told Gred about a year ago I WAS NOT going to get into these pans! NOW LOOK AT ME ;D

Will, The Lodge are marked # 19-6 cup, and #20-12 cup in the Red Book. Thanks all the same...

I think the 30 is a Lodge pan and is similar in style to the Griswold 20. Duke, does it look like a Griswold 20 clone?

According to the Red Book pic my pan looks nearly identical to Griswold #20. Where do you see a # 30 Lodge? The Lodge I see in the Red Book have straight turk heads. My pan has the swirl type turkheads
Sorry I can't offer a pic...

I don't know if the # 30 is in the red or blue books. What makes me think they are Lodge? Hmmm. I'm not sure how I know that. Either an old catalog or part of a Lodge exhibit at one of the conventions I think. I need a Lodge expert to weigh in here.

fwiw, believe that the #30 was also one of the early fakes of the small   swirl(?) Turkheads.
There is a good one, which should be very smooth.  The fake is fairly clunky/rough, & has a lot of grind but has been around for more than 25 years.  Be careful.

Yeah, the repros are prettty ugly pieces but the originals were some nice pans. I passed an original up on the yard sale this year and have kicked myself more than once. It was a nice pan for about $30 but I got distracted by something else then walked off without it.

The casting on this one odes look to be a slight bit rough but at $8.00 not hurt if it is a repro. Not many example of the Turkheads seen down in our part of the country. Will be able to tell more when I clean it up...
Thanks to all for input [smiley=santa3.gif]
