Here's a Lid Lifter I hadn't seen before, on the IDOS web-site. Looks like it might work well on Wedge/Tab handles.

 I wouldn't give up my mairs for one of these. Anything where I have to keep it squeezed together to hold a hot lid I would be leary of.

Troy, I was thinking the same thing, and not only that but with them teeth on there, it looks to me like they just might mark the handle a tad, but of course if you got cheap old camp ovens like Troys got, it wouldn't make no difference. At the convention in York this month, Troy told me that sometimes he just kicks the lids off.  ;D

One of those multi-use tools would be ok to have as part of a tool box for emergency need, wether lifting lids or removing tight jar lids, or whatever.  Personally prefer the Mair for lifting.  Have seen that design around for a long time, reminds me of scouting 50 years ago when we just used channel lock pliers

Ah... Scouting memories at Camp Cheaha...  or maybe on the Odum Trail...   Where I learned to use a DO and probably where I learned to watch the soup very closely because some little kid might pee in it or worse.  haha.  I earned about five kids merit badges in cooking to keep from eating delicacies including spaghetti soup... (he didn't know to drain the noodles)  or Green, Eggs and Ham...  the green being soap that wasn't rinsed off the pot.

Hey Troy.....A claw hammer seems to be an extreme way to get into a Dutch Oven.  How many extra lids do you have for your ovens???  What about all the iron shards that get in the food??    [smiley=smash.gif] ;D ;D ;D ;D [smiley=smash.gif]

 Good point, I should have explained that the claws on a hammer work as a decent hook to hook under the handle and lift the lid. It would have never crossed my mind to beat on an oven with one.

Troy.......Just ribbin' ya a little.......I've done the same thing myself, hooking the lid with the claws of a hammer.  Works real well in a pinch.
