Albany, NY Gatemark Skillet

Got this off of Ebay. Any info on it?  the writing on the handle seems to say: S. H. HANSOM & ALBANY N.Y. CO. This is my best guess anyway. Now the other question is do I send it back as it has a crack on the left side of the handle, or is it rare enough to keep anyway?

Hi Dwayne,

If you are saying that little 1/4" ?? mark next to the handle of your pan is a crack......I don't think I would let it bother me unless the seller made a point of saying the pan was perfect and if you didn't pay an exorbitant amount for it.....I'd keep it.  It looks like it will clean up into a nice looking pan.

Dwayne, keep that skillet or sell it to me but don't send it back.  I haven't seen that pan before but have several that I bet are from the same maker.  They have one very angular lip and other features that say they are very early but the handles look identical to me other than mine have no handle markings.  I bet yours is a later pan from Ransome and now I can assume that mine are also Ransoms.  Seriously, if you ever decide to sell the pan I will buy it from you.  Please keep me in mind.

After seeing this pan I put Dwaynes together with three unidentified pans I have with the same basic handle.  Without a doubt mine are also made by Ransom unless the same pattern maker used the same handle for another foundry.  My handles have no writing or the size number on the handle.  Here's a great instance of being able to identify the unidentifyable by seeing a very similiar pan with maker's name.  Dwayne's is a later design.  Mine have a singe, squarish lip and the rest of the skillet bowl is very early design and different.
