Unmarked Vienna Roll Pan
« on: May 25, 2006, 07:42:30 PM »
I've came up with another unmarked piece of iron :-/.  I believe to be a Vienna Roll Pan, if not please correct me.  I can't find any similar designs in any of my books. Does anyone have any ideas or ID's?  Thanks, Mike

Is this the one that was selling on Ebay as a Griswold in "rough condition"?  The bottom edge reinforcement looks cool, should clean up nicely.

Yair- I bought this in an antique mall in TN.  I took the pics after about 4 hrs in electro.  It has been coated with a shellac, varnish or something (amber in color).  4 hrs. the electro has softened it but not turning loose like paint.  Didn't pay much so thought I would take a chance.  The webbing on the bottom caught my attention also.  Mike

Mike, Wagner made a solid vienna pan like this in a marked version. I think tt's in the Blue book. I will see if I can find mine and put up a picture.

Harry- I had seen the solid pan in my Blue Book but passed it off because it was marked.  Rechecked and the design is closer than I first realized.  Here is a pic from about the same angle as the Wagner marked pan on page 257 of the Blue Book.  Looks the same to me.  Unmarked Wagner or something else?  Still more elector to go but coating is now coming off.  Mike

It very well may be unmarked Wagner though I was not aware that Wagner made such an unmarked pan.  But Wagner did make iron for different companies like Sears that was unmarked so you may have a piece of Wagner.  On the other hand, when Wagner did make an unmarked piece did they put ANY marks on the pan such as a catalog number?  I don't know but that's something to look into.

After cleaning and getting a good look I can still not find any pattern number or other markings.  In the Blue Book it gives the size of the marked one as 11 1/2"  X 6 1/2".  The  one I have is 12 1/8" X 6 1/2".  The casting was poured from the bottom center two sections.  There is a 5/16" round spot where it was poured, one was slightly ground and the other is slightly indented where it wasn't completely filled.  The casting is pretty smooth (not grainy) there are a few casting flaws (bumps and dents).  I don't have any Wagner muffin pans so don't have anything to compare to.  Any other ideas if Wagner or still unmarked and unknown?  Mike

I do have a Wagner skiver with a bolted handle with only the pattern number and no other markings.  It was determined to be Wagner here at WAGs in an earlier discussion.

Mike, if the pan was bottom gated it's not a Wagner and the size difference is strange if it isn't a copy in that one dimension is the same and one is larger.  Being a solid pan and not a cutout one it would probably be a later pan made after bottom gating was replaced by side or end gating.  A mystery of sorts.
