Question on an "ERIE"  Now with a picture
« on: April 15, 2006, 06:56:48 PM »
Now that I have the books I have a question.  I picked up an "ERIE" # 7 Skillet.  It has the usual markings but it also has a "SHIELD" up and to the right of the 7 marking. It looks like the picture on page 12 [upper left] in the Blue Book.  Does the "Shield" tell ya'll anything about this skillet?  I am not having much luck sending pictures. Thanks

There are a number of different pattern maker's marks like your shield on other ERIE second series skillets, mostly on the 7-9 sizes; maybe some others.  It's assumed that the marks are done by the pattern maker, maybe to differentiate one pattern from another.  Later, just a letter was used to differentiate patterns.
