Favorite Piqua Ware Logo

I dont know much about Favorite skillets and this is the first I noticed of the "smiley" logo that doesnt have the word Piqua.  Are they common?.... and I suppose it dates to the same era as the others? [smiley=unsure.gif]

I'd say uncommon. Don't believe I've seen these minus "Piqua".  Seen a couple toy skillets marked "Favorite Piqua". Interesting find Jerry.

I have to agree with Ed this is the first one I've ever seen without the Piqua on the smiley logo. I have seen a lot of variations on the written logos without the smilely logos. Nice piece, I wish I had found it.

That logo is not familiar to me nor my buddy who was into Favorite.  I wonder if it is one of the early skillets made by Chicago Hardware Foundry right after then bought or acquired the Favorite patterns.  Of course, when the pans weren't made in Piqua the city name couldn't be on the pan.

Jerry, I have a # 14 bailed griddle with the same logo missing the Piqua. Thought also it must be an early Chicago made  piece.

Only due to the fact that it didnt say Piqua Ohio or Sidney O, or Erie PA, like others.

I think they could have done that Jerry.  Maybe they didn't WANT to since they were in Chicago.

Good info, as usual.  I didn't know Chicago Hardware bought Piqua....or at least I didn't remember.   :P

Favorite went bankrupt in 1933 and the assets of such companies seem to get sold.  Chicago Hardware was the buyer of the patterns and I don't know what else.  Also don't know any of the details or any other info on Chicago Hardware Foundry or its history.

Yes we do.  And isn't it interesting that Chicago Hardware Foundry is a rather prominant foundry for iron cookware yet we don't know diddly about them?  Could we turn our conventioneers loose in Chicago in search of the truth by having a convention up there?

So where does CHF's Sani-Ware stuff fit into the picture time-wise; before or after the usualy CHF pieces?  I have my thoughts on the matter but wanted to hear some other views.

Thanks for your comments. I have been trying to find out if these are overlaps or different companies using the Favorite molds. I agree with what John has said about the order that these have seemed to follow but I can't seem to find the information on who did what. Are the diamond marks part of a Favorite line or Chicago line, or something else. I don't know if any of this rambling will make any sense to anyone but I find it interesting. I was hoping that the picture I posted on the two color skillet would time date it, though it looked like a fifties color to me.

Well,  at my last flea market I met a grandson of a worker and he told me of another "company" name that was working out of the same foundry.  I haven't called him yet,  but I do have a number.   Where did that piece of paper go.   I have researched Chicago and North Chicago and all I could find,  is that they went on strike during WWII.  There is almost no info out there.   I found this guy because he had a CHF chicken pan for sale.  Will get back to you guys shortly.

It would be nice just to know when the Chicago Foundry started making cookware or when they quit.

If I remember right of what this guy said,  they closed about 1981,  at about the same time his grandfather retired.
