Griswold chicken pan differences?
« on: April 08, 2016, 10:36:12 AM »
I'm new to cast iron collecting and would like to know the difference between the # 8 777 and the 768 chicken pan.

Thanks

Hi Joe - Welcome to WaGS!

The 777 is a smooth bottom while the 768 has a heat ring on the bottom.

 • I don't collect waffle irons; they just show up.

I'd also say that the 777 is a lot more common of a pan than the 768 is.  They were making 777 chicken pans into the small logo years; they can be found with small logos and each of the three handle variants that the other small logo skillets are found with.  I don't know for certain that all of the 777 smooth large block logo pans also said "OR CHICKEN PAN" beneath the words "CAST IRON SKILLET," but I think all of the ones that I've seen have said that.  The larger sizes of large block logo pan weren't self-identifying as chicken pans, but the 777 did.

Personally, I don't think I've ever seen a 768, except in photographs.
