Identify maker of lid
« on: November 02, 2015, 07:13:22 PM »
I have a lid stamped with F 8.  The F is directly below the handle on the the lid and the 8 is just to the right of the handle.  The inside of the lid is pock marked with small round indentures.  The handle is a thicker below the F, and smaller at the top.  I apologize for not sending a photo but it will have to come later. I am hoping to find the bottom some where in my garage.
Sincerely
Chris Miller

Well, you're in Birmingham, so that makes my guess BSR. Post a photo when you can; because, that is the only way we can tell for sure who made it.

Does the lid have ears? Does the underside have basting dimples? If it does are the dimples symmetrical or are they random?

James, yes it is.  Ears and all.  Thank you.  Giving the reference Birmingham, I looked on Ebay and think its Birmingham Stove cast iron.
I would like to confirm that, and also find out the approximate age of the lid and what pan the lid was used with.

Also, I would like to thank the others for their comments.

Sincerely

It would be from the red mountain series due to the random pattern of the dimples.

It would fit on any BS&R No. 8 pan, skillet Dutch Oven or chicken fryer that is 10 5/8 inches diameter.

I will let the more knowledgeable collectors give you an extract date range, but from mid 1950s and earlier.

Mark is correct. Red Mpuntain went from 1930's-1957. BSR being smart used the same lid for multiple things.
