Nickel Plated versus Cast Iron?
« on: January 13, 2015, 03:06:53 PM »
I'm new today. I have a small collection of Griswold compared to what I've seen some people have here. A few skillets and a Chicken Fryer that my wife LOVES to cook with. I also recently acquired an "Erie" bean pot which ended up being an awesome post-Halloween Candy holder.

Question: I've been looking at double skillets lately after seeing one go at an auction(It sold before I got there  :'( ). I've been looking on ebay since then and I see some Nickel plated double skillets. I read up on some of things talked about but what I'm not sure about is what is more valuable and or better for cooking? I did read that they were considered higher end in their day but are they still considered more valuable?

Thanks,
Dave

Hello Dave, and welcome to WAGS!!

Plated pieces are generally lesser value, except, if in excellent condition, which are difficult to find.   Worn, chipped, and poor condition plated pieces detract greatly from value in most cases.

I , personally, avoid plated pieces for cooking, and prefer black iron pieces. (I don't want to worry about what might be flaking off or dissolving into my food... :) )

Thanks Cheryl :)

My wife agrees about the flakes.
