Old Japanese Wafer Iron

One other of my can't resist items.  Ran across it in the garage, I had forgotten about it.  These are more works of art than anything else.  The handles are wrought iron, the paddles are steel with the design engraved into it.  A colleague of Greg's was able to help me translate an earlier one a few years ago.  Hopefully, when I get this cleaned and some better pictures, we might know what it says.  Circa 1900-1910.  The characters on the paddle are reversed so they read properly on the wafer.

(I do know folks don't like foreign items, but these are quality, well made examples of the metal arts.)

I think most members can appreciate good quality cast iron.  I think it looks great.

No, it's flat, no design  You have the flat piece with the design.  Then the ring you see in the picture is riveted on.  The other side is just a flat piece that acts like a cover.  The whole wafer is formed and contained in the part you see in the picture.  I'll post a side view once it's cleaned up.
