Possible rare 4th Style Griswold Handle???
« on: May 12, 2014, 12:36:22 PM »
I am familiar with the different handles on the Griswold Skillets.  The teardrop on the older ones, the three different types on the small logo ones (Early, Late, Grooved).

I am however totally unfamiliar with different type handles on otherwise identical large logo skillets.

Just got ahold of a second #8 large logo Griswold for $12.00 yesterday, and when I got it home I noticed that the bottoms on the handles did not match.  The top of the handles look the same.  The only other difference between the two are the mold ID.  The one on the left has that pattern number 704 and a mold ID of "W".
The one on the right has a pattern number of 704 and no mold ID.

Steve Stephens made mention of a rarely seen 4th handle style in a post from 9 years ago.  He stated that in 30 years he had only seen one.  Could this be another?

Can anyone possibly shed any addition light on the subject?

I sure wish Steve Stephens was here. Oh how that man just loves to talk about skillet handles. He knows volumes and volumes about them. What I know about them is that some of them are different than others.

Would love it if I have come across a really rare (1:1,000,000) piece.

Just PM'd Steve Stephens over at castironcollectors.com.

Hopefully he will be able to shed some light on my find.

This might be the handle you are referencing.

Got the information from Steve Stephens.

It is simply an Early Handle "variation".

From what others have said, the 4th style of handle was limited to the #3 Large Logo Block Letter Skillet.

I don't know if it's the 3rd or 4th style, but here is one #3 I have that is different than the 2 handles previously posted in this thread.
