useful marriage
« on: October 10, 2007, 09:12:10 PM »
This BSR lid was given to me last year.  Finally got around to cleaning and seasoning it.  4 hours in the electro, 2 hours in vinager solution, 4 more hours in electro, 30 minutes with a 4in right angle grinder/wire cup wheel to get down to bare iron.

Lots of piting from the rust, but came out nice for using in the back yard.

Here is the skillet I am marrying the lid to.  Found this in a combination antique/junk/yard sale store up in the mountains.

Here they are, together for as long as they continue to live with me.

One more, doing their thing.
By the way, FWIW, the Mair lid lifter does just fit the BSR tab hole.

Tom nice set. Is that lid a loose fit? From the side view it sure looks like they belong together. By the way You forgot the last photo. The one that shows, What's in it. ;D

Tom, thats a nice set. And a very nice lid lifter. I had to look at it for a few minutes to figure out how it works.

I put 6 briquets under, then loaded the lid.  To keep from burning the chips and to have a lot of upper heat to heat the refried beans.

When the refried beans get hot, add a layer of shredded cheeze.  This is cheder, Montery jack or peper jack is also good.

When the cheeze is melted, it's ready to serve.  For 2 its a meal, for a larger group it's an appitizer.  ( browned hamberger can be added to the beans also, for a really nice meal )
I use Pase Picante HOT, and thick sliced red onion, my wife prefers a milder topping, guackamolie (sp) and choped red onion.

I don't know who made the skillet, but they sure do fit like they belong together.  Same fit as my BSR 12in CO, that I found in Colorado Springs 2 weeks ago in unused/very little used condition for $36.00
The skillet was in unused condition also, just begining to have light rusting that cleaned off in the sink.

I sent you a PM, but that number 12 sure looks like the style BS&R used on DO's. I was surprised how well that lid matched. I had a photo of a BS&R Camp Skillet, but a computer crash ate it.

Nice meal!

Tom, that looks like it might be a marriage made in Birmingham, and the food looks good as well.  You did a nice job cleaning up that lid and putting it back into service.
