Early KKK pan
« on: September 14, 2005, 08:38:29 AM »
Heres the style KKK ya don't see everyday. Notice the handles, straight no hang holes, the Ks that spell Krusty Korn Kobs are not ears of corn, and it reads Pat Pending, not the Pat. date, one other thing above Krusty Korn Kobs it reads Trade Mark. No c/n either.... Gotta go I'm late!

Those pans are hard to find.  Got my first one off ebay earlier this year.  And they are very smooth, fine grained castings, too.  I've seen a pile of the straight handled ones in a school cafeteria in North Carolina but they weren't marked at all.  Might have been the very first production of the pans.

The next version is pretty much the same but with the usual handles.  Then they changed again with the KKK being cobs of korn.  The Junior size do not have these early variations and details but they do have larger "hand written" printing on the backs while the later pans have smaller typewriter style print.

I plan to bring my early Senior pan to the convention for show but, if you are going to do the same, let me know as I can stand to bring less weight all across the country.

No Steve I am not bringing it. My space is very limited, bringing the whole family this year, plus the set-up for the electro demo. Very little iron coming with me on this trip, unforunately. Have to have room for iron I find at the convention and on the road. We are going to spend the week after the convention checking out some of the sites in them thar hills. I should have bought a van instead of another pick-up truck.

We'll be O.K. Perry. Ya know I'm married to one of those great Hillbilly Gals. She's just lost that Southern draw. I'm sure it will all come back to her when we head South.

Shhhhhh Ed, don't be talkin out of school about how them Hillbilly Gals is keepers. One, it will give them the big head if they hear you say it, and two, it will drive the price of them up to where its gonna take a rich man to afford one. Hillbilly Gals bought and sold on the open market right now are a good value. You know how that economics stuff works, one word gettin out to the wrong place and its all over for a stable market.

Ed, that sure is a nice pan.  The casting looks really smooth in the photo.  I'll have to be on the lookout for one of those.

Roger is on the lookout for a Hillbilly gal with a smooth bottom and Ed's gonna help him find the one he wants. Man, this WAGS is the helpfulest bunch I ever did see.

Clark, thanks for the support of my attempt at just having a little fun and trying to mix some humor in. Some may think I operate from a padded cell, but it ain't really padded.

By the way, I have a pan somewhat like this except mine has the hang hole on each end and it does not have the cross, like the red cross, on it. The markings, words, and everything else is the same. It is a user and it does an excellent job at making cornbread. Does anybody know what the signifigance of the cross is?

Also, Eds piece is pictured on page 262 of 2nd edition of the blue book, except the one in the book has no cross.

Perry, are the handles straight like this pan or curved. I've never seen one with hang holes and straight handles. The cross I've seen on other KKK pans, but I have no idea of it's signifigance.

I don't know what the cross is but it might be a pattern maker's mark.  The pan without the cross is probably an earlier one than with the cross since the cross appears on later, curved handle pans.

Someone could finish the cross mark by engraving two circles around it and then GRISWOLD inside the cross.  An early, double marked piece that would be.
