D/O trivet question
« on: August 27, 2005, 10:29:11 AM »
I snagged a trivet marked with a #8, p/n 188. 4th edition blue book says size 8 trivet for D/Os. Not saying Griswold and having p/n and #8 on it ,is it a un-marked trivet for the Iron Mountain line of D/Os.

 Thanks, ED

I have the same one,  and asked that along time ago.   If I remember right,  it is for the Iron Mountains.

Yes it is for the Iron Mountain line.
So, is there a #13 Iron Mountain DO, as I have a trivet marked appropriately for a 13, but no Griswold ERIE PA USA on it?

No Greg, there ain't no number 13 Iron Mountain Dutch Oven, so you might as well sell me that 13 trivet for a song since it ain't worth nuthin anyway. [smiley=hysterical.gif]

That is a good question, so one could assume, maybe, that a whole set of Iron Mountain DO's were made, 6,7,8,9,10,11,12, and 13. If there was a 13, surely it went the smaller sizes too?

Greg, I never have either. I thought one time we discussed the IM DO sizes and we said they only came in like, 8,9, and maybe 10. It is kind of interesting to think they might be out there all the sizes though. And yes, I have a buck but don't exactly understand.

Perry,  I have a compleat #7 Iron Montain DO.   I also picked up a #7 lid at a antique store cheap.   I got the compleat #7 off of Ebay as a BIN.   I have seen on Ebay #7,8,9,10.   But that is it.   Anyone see any more???????????

And Perry,  Greg is offering you the #13 DO trivit for a buck.   I will offer Greg 2 bucks ;D

See (C) Will, I knew (new) just because it sounds like it, don't mean (nasty) thats what you heard (herd).  :-?

So Greg, that ain't quite the way it works. With my buck and your doe we can get some fawns, but I don't think your fawns are ready to be bred, but I am sure my buck won't mind if they don't mind.  [smiley=hysterical.gif]

I wonder why my #13 DO trivet is marked the way it is without the GRISWOLD ERIE PA USA on it?  What series, for whom, etc.?

Well, that seems to settle it. Griswold made trivets marked and unmarked. Wasn't it Wagner that made trivets in aluminum and then later in cast iron for the same DO's, so why couldn't Griswold have made two kinds of trivets, marked and unmarked, for the same DO's, we already know they made unmarked trivets for the IM line of DO's? So whats to say they didn't make two kinds for their other than IM DO's?

And John Myers, please don't get mad, but upon what do you base your statement that Griswold only made IM DO's in 7, 8, 9, and 10? Are you going on information from the Blue Book?

I am pretty sure that John has catalogues with IM and other "off" brands of Griswold.   I not only collect it,  but John collects it too.

Will, I was just going by the Blue Book. There is a Griswold shipping order from 1931 that shows unmarked DO's in sizes 7,8,9,10 and also states trivets are available for them as well. But, things change, or it could have stayed that way. My point is that the 1931 shipping order shows one thing, but as we can see from Griswolds catalogs, items are added. Case in point is Griswolds 1890-91 catalog shows DO's in sizes 8,9, and 10, the Circa 1904 catalog shows them in sizes 8,9,10,11, the Circa 1910 shows them in sizes 6,7,8,9,10,11, the Griswold 1918 catalog shows them in sizes 6,7,8,9,10,11,12, and 13, and the Griswold 1940-1941 shows them in sizes 6,7,8,9,10,11,12, and 13. So when they were making the unmarked IM 7,8,9, and 10 DO's in 1931, they were also making DO's in sizes 11,12, and 13. Its just something I'm pointing out. I think it is possible they made unmarked DO's in sizes larger than 10 but I certainly don't have any proof of it.

That 13 trivet could be an early one and Griswold did not mark the very early ones for some or all sizes.  Possibility?  I think the first Griswold trivets were made for the Tite-Top Basters and not before.
