Hello from Kansas!
« on: May 05, 2019, 07:46:17 AM »
I became interested in CI after attending a BBQ contest and visiting with a contestant who was using CI.  I bought my first pieces a month ago in a local flea market.  A #8 small logo Griswold, a #7 large logo Griswold, a 10.5” Wagner chicken fryer, a #4 Chicago hammered skillet, and a #3 Wagner Ware Sidney.  All were already seasoned and in great shape, but I still stripped and seasoned them and now they look and cook even better.  I recently bought a #6 Wagner Ware and something very interesting.  A Griswold slant #9 DO with the name spelled wrong on the lid.  It’s spelled “Girswold”. I understand some were shipped out with this mistake.  I’m still trying to find out how rare it may be.  Glad to be here!

Hi backatcha from Iowa - we're almost neighbors.

Welcome to the Forum, lots of great CI info here and it sounds like you're on your way to collecting some nice iron.

Sorry I can't help you with your "Girswold" DO cover.  I've heard stories both ways as to value/authenticity and can't confirm either way.  I guess it depends on whose opinion you choose to believe.

Welcome! I can't help with Griswold stuff either. I see a few here and there, but the ones I can afford are always in terrible shape.

Thanks to everyone for the welcome.  My mom and dad live 6 hours from me and visited this weekend for my youngest son’s graduation.  They’ve been married 61 years.  She brought 3 piece to give me.  A #8 Wagner Ware Sidney chicken fryer, an unmarked #8 skillet (not sure what it is yet), and a Griswold small logo skillet lid.  I’m really excited about the lid because I already have a Griswold #8 small logo skillet that matches it.  She said all were given to her by my grandmother, whom passed away in 1963 before I was born.  It will be really special to get them cleaned up and reseasoned.  I’ll post pictures when I’m done.

We like pictures here. It is nice to hear when family pieces stay with family.  Welcome
