What series Erie 11 is this?

I picked up this Erie skillet tonight without knowing anything about them. After doing some quick research it looks like this is an older piece than I thought I was getting.

I'm curious if anyone can confirm the series. My guess is series 1, but I know nothing about this.

Also, I read the cleaning and seasoning info. This doesn't look like it's in too bad of shape, but I want to make sure that best practice is to give this a nice clean before use.

Hello and welcome to the Forum.

That's a nice skillet (not the easiest to find) and it is indeed a First Series ERIE.  The scooped handle is a dead giveaway.

I'd clean it, remove any rust and re-season. Should be smooth as a baby's butt when you're done and it will cook beautifully. Love the old Erie's.

Thanks for this info, Sandy and Frank! I'm excited about having a cool vintage skillet.

It should be an adventure cleaning a skillet for the first time.
