#14 skillet and Waffle Iron ID
« on: August 14, 2020, 09:45:20 PM »
Happy Friday everyone!

Long time lurker and second time poster.  Love the cookbook section of this forum.

I have two items I would love some info on...

1st - A Griswold MFG. CO. New American Waffle Iron.

I have searched so many of these patterns and logos to no avail.
There are 'American' and 'New American' designs and so many variations.
If anyone could give me a date range based on the pictures, I would be grateful. It does lack the 'USA' after Erie, PA.

Base has only a mark on the handle - 975.  Appears to be a slight 975 ghost mark under it as well.

The waffle iron does make incredible waffles consistently.  :)

2nd - I think the #14 skillet is a transition piece?

Griswold/Wagner?  I was gifted this from an older neighbor.  She said it was her father's.  It hung in her basement until last fall when she handed it to me.  Honestly, it has got to be one of my favorite pieces.  No lye bath, no E-tank.  Just a scrub and re-season.  Perfect for bacon, eggs and sausages.  Date range?

Thank you Cheryl for the info.  I kind of assumed so but it is nice to get confirmation.  I just love using this skillet, more often than not it is used sitting on a lodge lid stand over coals for camp breakfast.

If memory serves correct, one of my favorite posts from you was the cornbread in that beautiful spider skillet.  :D

Thanks again.

Does anyone have information on the waffle iron production date?

Thanks so much from a new comer.  :)

An approximate age range would be 1905 to just after WW1 for the 996/997 patterns.  The lettering varied over the years.  I don't know the year any closer for this marking.

Thank you Tom for the information.

I think it is a ball hinge on this one.

Thumbs up to Cheryl and Tom.   :)
