Odd cast iron item: IMP 161
« on: February 27, 2017, 12:00:14 PM »
I can't find any information on this item (8 3/4" w. x 11 1/4" long including handle). Only marking is "IMP 161. Looks like a coal stove clinker pan? Any member help will be greatly appreciated, Don (not sure if photo attachment will work for me, very confusing)

Don, that is for a Stove.

The item above would fit under the 'ash' bucket, and would be used to remove the ash bucket to empty it.  :)

Thank you very much! That makes sense. I thought it had some relation to a wood or coal stove. Don

Cheryl, something is tugging at my memory saying that something like this fit on the bottom of a device to put a measured amount of coal in a stove.  Seems like we had some kind of discussion about it a long time back.  Ash bucket bottom sounds fine, but I'm wondering. :-?

Thanks Jim.  I grabbed a couple pictures to kind of show how this would work.

This is not exactly the same device, but you see the cylinder inside the stove.  That would be filled with coal and self-feed the fire.  Notes said this one would burn about 12 hours on a full cylinder.

When you needed to empty the ashes, you would slide this slicer (it would slice off the feed).  It would hold the coal and let you drop the clinkers.

Then pull it out and a new supply of already hot, burning coal would drop onto the grates.

One photo shows the magazine, the other the hole in the top that you fill from for this stove.

Many years ago we discussed this piece. I kept some notes on it and still have them along with some pics. What started it all was the big BS lies that ebay sellers were telling about this piece. One of my favorite BS lies was the seller who said this was a pie baking piece where you put the pie on this piece and then you slid the whole deal into a designated slot in the stove and you pulled it out when it was done, and you could serve from the device as well.

That's what I was remembering Perry.  I think the pie reference came from Cast Iron Charlie.  Do you recall the title of the old post?  It would be fun to read it again.  Of course I have a case of CRS and can't figure out what it might have been.

Good to see you around again.

Tom

DO I RECALL THE TITLE OF THE OLD POST?  :o :o :o :o

L NO I don't remember the Title of that post. I could pull a Steve Stephens on you though. Steves favorite person was Mark Twain because Twain said when he was younger he could remember everything that happened, whether it did or not.  :-/ :-/ :-/
