ID Please?

The two little gem pans that I got today....the first one is the golfball pan...I don't know what the mark is on the end, maybe a "9"?  If it is, it's sideways....

Charlee, does the first one have a faint 947 on the top handle, it looks like the #9 golf ball.  They are on page 40 in Haussler's book.  The bottom looks kinda rough though.   The other one looks like the #2 gem pan on page 16 of the same book.

As for the golfball pan, I don't think it does have the 947, unless the pitting has erased it.   It also has the gatemarks on the first row and the third row...

I looked pretty hard at the #2 in Haussler's book....there's no line under the "O" in the "No 2", but the font is the same and everything else looks the same....that's why I wasn't sure if it would be Griswold or not...

Lordy!  There's so much to learn!  Any ideas on the little skillet?

It would be fair to assume that John Hausler didn't have a complete collection... I have one of those 2's myself just in case... ;)

Charlee, I believe the little hammered skillet is Lodge. They made several sizes of the little hammered skillets with various markings.  Some had a series of dots in a line/row on the bottom (1 to 7 dots), some with Roman Numerals, and some other markings like yours.  Mike

I think your pan with the gate marks is an R & E or Waterman. The Griswold 947's are a little different and would not have gate marks. The # 2 looks like a Griswold. The small skillet looks like Lodge but the size is throwing me off. Did Lodge make a hammered skillet that size? I know of smaller ones and larger ones, but I don't recall seeing any that size. But there is a lot about Lodge I don't know.

Jeff, I don't think anyone owns a complete set of all the known Griswold muffin pan variations. I know of a few that are close but none that are complete. The fact there is only one known # 28 bread pan in the collecting community as well as a handful of other REALLY rare pans makes owning all of the variations a real stretch plus there are variations that have showed up not listed in Jon's book.

Harry,  the closest I have to Charlees 5 1/8 spout to spout is one 5 3/8, I have 2 and both are the same so not sure about the one Charlee has.  The sizes I have are (spout to spout) 3 1/4, 4 1/8, and 5 3/8. The next size up I have is a #3, 6 3/4 spout to spout.  Pics attached.  Mike

Charlee, I can't explain the size difference but the hammering style still makes me believe yours is a Lodge.  Not alot of value but nicely cast, neat little older Lodge pieces- 30's-40's?. And it is cast iron and I like cast iron.  :)Mike

The consensus from those that have collected longer me agree that these were made by Lodge even though they are not marked.  Hammered cast iron pieces are believed to have been most popular in the 30's and 40's so most are put in this general era.  As for value these little skillets seem to show up fairly often so don't sell for much, $3-$8($10 max, maybe).  They often don't even sell on ebay as the shipping is usually as much as the value.  Mike
