Good health skillet
« on: October 29, 2007, 12:52:29 AM »
I picked up a good health #8 skillet married to a Iron Mountain #8 top. Did Good Health skillets have their own tops or was this possible a original marriage. I.E. if anyone bought a Good Health skillet and wanted a lid would the store just sell them whatever fit?

Greg,

Sorry your question has been here so long without an answer -- or at least an opinion.

Mine is pretty much an opinion:  Since the Good Health and Iron Mountain lines of cast iron were both made by Griswold as a "cheaper" line of iron to be sold in various retail stores, I would expect them both to be in the same display area -- and knowing retail stores (just as now) they will sell you any combination you want to buy.  I really don't know if Good Health had lids of their own, but would suspect that they did, since Iron Mountain did.  A lot of times, a skillet or oven Dutch Oven will have a matching lid that doesn't have a single mark on it -- making it quite difficult to determine what lid goes with what and/or if the skillet manufacturer made a lid for the skillet or oven.

I wish there was more information about the Good Health and Iron Mountain iron.  I have an Iron Mountain skillet and would like more items like it, plus more information about the other possibilities in that line.

If you can, please post a picture of the Iron Mountain lid.  I've never seen one.

Shot me,  I thought I responded.   I have a  "Best Made"  skillet lid.   I don't know if I have a "Good Health" lid.   But I will look.    If Griswold made "Iron Mountain" and "Best Made" lids,   I wouldn't doubt they made "Good Heath"   But I may be wrong.

Just sopmething to add:

Good Health was made by Griswold for Sears, while the Iron Mountain was made for general distribution as an economy line of CI.

Best made was made for Sears too.   And I have a lid for that one.   Will post picture later today.   Got to get it from my parents house. ;D

Well,  here it is.  It is a low dome smooth lid.

Here's a very dirty aluminum version of that lid.  It came on a Best Made cast iron skillet.

Hey Gary, thanks for putting that lid up. We don't care if the iron is dirty or not, iron is iron.  ;)

Mike,

Thanks for the pictures of the Iron Mountain lid.  I really like that high-dome look.  I'm not too likely to see any of them around here, but if I do, I will definitely try to get one.

I wonder if the IM cover (PN 1035) was sold only with the chicken pan or if they were available separately for use with a No. 8 skillet.
Hold still rabbit so I can dunk you in this bucket of lye!

Jeff, It is my understanding that the lids for skillets and FBK's were only offered as a separate item. I looked in the Cat. 55 and these lids were priced separately. I don't think I have anything that lists the unmarked line but I would expect the skillet lids to be a separate item for them as well.
