Old Style Waffle Iron

I love my wife. Came home from work, to this WI. She found it at an Estate Sale for $10, and thought I might like it. Any ideas on maker? The handle reminds me of those mid-west gate-marked skillets. Has a rivet holding the hinge together.  Only marks I find is 8 L.

Well Dwayne, man you have got something, a wife that brings you home cast iron, wow. How you trade her to some cast iron? If it was me, I wouldn't care what kind it was, I'd rave about it.

While I don't know the name of the maker, it looks old, pre 1900 easily I'd say, as you may or may not know, its the kind that sits over a number 8 eye of a wood or coal cook stove, and you flip it over and it turns down in the eye of the stove and comes back up when you turn it to cook the other side. I'd say it has gate marks on it somewhere as well. I see them around every now and then and I have a couple of them. And for 10.00, I'd say she done very well, and you can tell her I said so.  ;) Can you clean it up and let us see it again?  :)

Dwayne, I've got a couple variations of this W/I.  While the basic design is pretty common the thing that changes on them are the hinges.  I think Steve S. seemed to think they came from the PA area ( I forget if he stated east or west) but were made by several foundries.  When you get a chance post a pic of the hinge, it looks different than the ones I have.   For $10 it would have probably followed me home too.  :) Mike

This is about the best I can do. Simple hinge held with a rivet. Have it cleaning now. Will post another photo if it cleans up well.
