Umarked Dbl SK Top ??
« on: September 20, 2007, 05:58:06 PM »
I found a very carboned up double skillet top, I was hoping when I cleaned it some ID would show up but no such luck.  No markings at all. It doesn't have any pour spouts so goes with a deep skillet/chicken fryer? Very smooth polished castin. Also something I hadn't seen before no grinding on the edge where it was poured.  The only grinding is on the web under the handle.  Is this where the mold was poured?  Here's a pic of the bottom and the top in next post. Can anyone ID? Mike

Mike very nice looking pan, and a nice job with the cleaning, smooth as glass. No I can't ID that double sk. top for you. I am sure that someone will ID for you because of the handle. clark

Looks like a Vollrath to me as well.

Vollrath.  Could be that if there were grinding marks around the outside of the pan that they were "removed" by the tumbling machine.  I don't think the piece was gated through the bottom of the handle but I guess it's possible.

Thanks All! Got the books out and the handle sure is consistant with Vollrath.  I didn't even know I was collecting Vollrath ;). Very very nicely cast and polished piece. Anyone know what  the bottom skillet/fryer looks like or have an extra for sale?  I can't even keep up with what I don't know now and gotta start looking something else I don't know anything about. :)  Gotta quit picking up these strays :).  Mike

Steve, I agree after looking a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th time probably side gated but they sure did a great job of polishing out the grinding marks.  Mike

Mike, chances are that the bottom part is just a deep skillet or chicken fryer bottom.  I don't know that for sure though.

Way cool Mike.  I agree the handle screams Vollrath.  But I wonder what it fits on.  The Vollrath skillets, deep skillets and chicken fryers I've seen all have pour spouts and your top doesn't.  What's the diameter?

Sandy to the best of my knowledge this is the only piece of Vollrath I have so don't have a clue.  The very outside diameter is 10 1/4 in.  The OD of the lip which would fit inside of a bottom skillet is 9 11/16+, so ID of the bottom  piece would have to be 9 3/4 to set inside.  Hope I explained this to where you understand if not just ask again.  Mike

OPPs!!  Had to edit the measurements.  Sorry, Mike
