Miami marked skillets
« on: September 09, 2007, 08:51:53 AM »
I have seen a number of these skillets with the ghost mark Miami above the Miami mark in the diamond. Has anyone seen this skillet arched Miami only? I hope the picture is clear enough to see this ghost mark.

Mark, I don't know if I've seen a plain MIAMI mark not in the diamond.  This IMAIM skillet below seems to be an early MIAMI with the fancy, open "7" and the pan had the reinforced top rim like the early ERIEs and WAGNER skillets.  It's nickeled but not polished on the outside.  There is no hint of a ghost on this skillet.  I don't think I have seen any other 7 Miami skillets like this nickel one with the reinforced top rim.

I have 2 sets of the Favorite smilely Miami diamond marked skillets(7,8,9). One of these has the reinforced rim and also a reinforced handle base. I also have three Miami diamond marked skillets. Two (#8) also show this reinforced rim and one also has the reinforced handle base. The other one a Miami diamond marked skillet (#7) is marked in the middle of the pan without the reinforcements. I see the ghost in the #8 Miami pans and I wonder why this is if there is no original?

Mark, it's possible that the original Miami pattern was for only a MIAMI mark but, before putting into production of slightly after production, it was modified to the diamond mark.  I've had the later MIAMI pans with the very wide handle pad but don't recall the reinforcing rim.

Thanks Mark,
It's nice to see photos to refresh my memory.  I got my nickeled early MIAMI from a friend and it's a user occasionally.  A very nice cleanly designed/styled pan I think.  There is sure enough in iron cookware out there to satisfy anyone.
