Aluminum ww sk.
« on: August 26, 2007, 04:34:04 PM »
I found this weekend. All aluminum (note handle), deep inset heat ring, almost chef like radius on sides. Note rib on handle. And no pour spouts.  I can't find it in the books in aluminum or cast iron. Is this a lunch hour special from a cast iron mold ? (10 1/4" dia.)Has anybody seen this in aluminum or cast iron? Looking at the logo and the the shape of the sk, when was it made?

Clark, a very interesting pan.  I can't tell you a thing about it but would be surprised if Wagner would make such a pan with the aluminum handle since the handle would get pretty hot.

What's the difference?  CI handles get hot.  Could this have been a prototype prior to WW getting into full swing on aluminum castings?

That's a cool skillet, Clark.  Interesting that there are no pour spouts.  Also interesting that the h/r is inset with those markings.

Sandy, me too on them thoughts about the handle. A cast iron handle gets hot too, so whats the difference, hot is hot? Too hot to handle is too hot to handle.

Aluminum handle will get hot faster due to the faster heat transfer of aluminum over iron.  Yes, iron handles do get somewhat hot.  Aluminum handles get hotter faster and hotter overall.  That's why virtually all Wagner and Griswold aluminum skillet have wood or coil handles.
