#5 Hammered ID ??
« on: November 24, 2006, 02:09:47 PM »
Can anyone ID this #5 hammered skillet?  The only markings are 3 dots under the handle.  It is fairly rough finish on the outside but pretty smooth on the inside. Also a little heavy.     Mike

I've been seeing these for years Mike with no knowledge of the maker or where they come from.  I'd say from late 30's to 40's which is when most hammered pieces were made.

I have a couple of # 8's by the same maker. Only mark is a 8 on top of the handle and one dot under. Heavy sucker! Always thought the handle was sorta short and oddly shaped. :-/

I've got one with four dots that looks even worse than yours, Mike.  Both the outside and the inside are real rough - it looks like the pattern broke and the patched it up and kept using it.  I thought all the rough stuff was caked on crud, but out of the lye bath, it didn't look any better!  Oh Well, I only paid 2 bucks at a yard sale, so it will get used as a smoker box for my grill.  It's too ugly to cook in - it would be my entry in the ugliest pan contest.  [smiley=crazy.gif]

I have one of these as well, no. 8 except mine has 2 dots on bottom of the handle, was curious who the maker was, anyone have any luck in finding out who made them? I know for sure that it's one of my favorites to use though. Love the way things cook in it.

Jerry, these will probably remain on the unknown list.  Not an item most (or any)real collectors will have any interest in.  I have put together  a 3 piece 'set'   ::) 3, 5, and 8.  The #3 has a different handle and cast quality is worse than the others. #3 and #8 have the dots in a triangle the #5 in a line.  This my 'clunker set' and they kinda grew on me like a stray dog or cat.  Guess I'm just a sucker. :)  Mike

Anyone ever see other sizes. ;)  Mike
