Interesting #6 Gem Pan
« on: April 21, 2006, 06:52:16 PM »
This Gem Pan does not fit any of the Griswold variations in Haussler.  However, it is exactly the same size and does say "6".  I noticed that different manufacturers used different model numbers for identical looking pans.  So the 6 in and of itself is interesting to me.  The casting and finish is also very good.  Finally, it has gate marks -- none of the Griswold's do.

So my question is, is this a new variation or a pan made by a different manufacturer, and if so, any ideas?

I've always thought these pans (and others that are different styles but with the same handles) may be copies from the Waterman/R&E pans.  The Waterman/R&E's are side gated except for the 3 cup Watermans but they are all very old I think.  Your pan is not Griswold.  Note that the Griswold pans all have straight end handles and not curved as this pan of yours.  I find that many companies used the same number (trade number) for their pans of the same style but there were some companies who did not follow the convention and their pans are likely to be mostly numbered differently.  I don't know the maker of your pan Yair but it's an oldie.

As Steve says, the give away saying that this is not Griswold is the curved handle.  Many neat pieces out there that make great users though, similar to this one.
