General Information / Dutch oven help
« Last post by Patrick Howlett on September 05, 2021, 05:12:24 PM »
Hey everyone,  I'm new here and need a little help. I just picked up a Griswold no. 9 Dutch oven. The lid and oven are both slant logo with"Erie".  The lid is a 2552, and the oven is a 834.  Are these a correct matching pair? And what is the approximate age?  Thanks so much.

Sorry to be late with this, but let's give Steve Mummeret (Tim's brother) a big WAGS WELCOME.  Steve hails from Fortuna, MO, and if all goes well, he'll be joining Tim at this year's convention in Hot Springs, AR.  I don't think he has registered on the Forum yet, but let's have some greetings for him when he does.  Glad to have you join WAGS Steve and hope you enjoy yourself at the convention.  Maybe Tim will get you hooked on cast iron.  If you do get a chance to look around the Forum, let us know what you think, and post a "Hi" back at us.

WELCOME Again,    :icon_bananas:  :welcome:   :icon_bananas:

Thanks Cheryl, when I saw that the "WAGNER" was shallow and distorted I figured so. Time to cook some bacon in it 😎

Hello Thomas,

That is a recast for Certain.

Made using a real Wagner skillet as a pattern.

I used a Taiwan skillet in my smoker for a water pan and after a few years of neglect it looked a lot like yours. Minus the misspelling of course 😁

I've had this skillet for many years and haven't found any information on it.  Seems Wagner started in1891 and gate mark skillets were becoming a thing if the past by then, so not sure why their logo would be on a #8 gate mark skillet? Could this be a recast from someone?
