Another AZ Desert Dweller...
« on: May 03, 2018, 01:56:26 AM »
Feels like I'm among friends  8-) ... thrilled to be here.

Started acquiring CI skillets earlier this year. Wife's favorite 8" teflon pan was lacerated by those terribly abrasive wood and nylon utensils. Food revolted by leaving burnt remnants. Pan responded in kind with lethal surface shrapnel.

A friend gave my wife 2 Cuisine & Co. (MIC) 10.25" red enameled skillets. Black matte enamel surface was rough and food stuck. Wife not happy... told me good cast iron was very smooth. She showed me a black CI skillet at a Goodwill with very smooth surface. Bought it for $12. The only markings were a "6" on the handle,
"9 INCH SKILLET" and a "W" on the bottom.

After a "crash course on cast iron", courtesy of Eric Walker - Cast Iron Chaos, I took a liking to my Wagner... and Lodge... and BSR... and, of course, Griswold. Every one of them unmarked  :D

So, that's why I'm here @ WAGS. I'm Bob. I live at the foot of the Superstition Mountain east of Phx.

Thanks, Duke. We like Texas. Wife was born in Conroe. Grew up on both sides of the Sabine, dad was itinerant preacher.
Her parents settled in Orange.

I had an IBM engineering gig in Austin early '90s. Lived in Round Rock then.

You're all over the place on this site, Duke. I'm sure we'll talk again.

Thought your location  sounded familiar.  I bought my road bike off ebay from a person in Apache Junction 12 years ago.  :)

Eric Walker lives in town here.

One thing I've noticed in doing searches  is that AZ is a good place to be for old cast iron.  I've always thought it was lots of retirees from other parts of the country that brought their cast iron with them.
