Cast iron only?
« on: February 10, 2020, 07:47:32 AM »
I never knew, until I received the blue and red book, that vast amount of aluminum items that have been put out over the years by the several companies. I am curious, do you limit your collection solely to cast iron, or everything?  Lol

While my main addiction/attraction is American Cast Iron, preferably cast before the early sixties, with special emphasis on bottom-gate pieces, I am not one to eschew the occasional piece of Magnalite.  At last count, I have about 20 pieces of various sizes and shapes, mostly GHC, but I lucked into one actual Wagner Ware with a single W. My wife even picked up a nice long handled restaurant quality pot that she mistook for Magnalite.  About 8 inches deep and 12 inches in diameter, other than not being branded on the bottom with the Magnalite logo, the main difference was the four rivets vice three securing the handle to the main body of the pot.
After extensive Google research, it appears to be Vollrath. It is great for chicken and dumplings.
And then there is LeCreuset and other brands of enameled iron.
The possibilities are  endless.

I collect whatever I enjoy.  I have mostly cast iron, but some aluminum here and there.  I don't buy everything I see, but I do try and narrow things a bit to keep it manageable.  If you can't have fun and enjoy collecting then why do it?  lol  I also have a large magnalite oval that I use for gumbo.  It's the best and you can lift it when it's full.  :D ;)

I have some Magnalite, my favorite  aluminum users are made by Commercial Aluminum they're about 1/4" thick, anodized  and for a all day simmer are hard to beat. Don't tell no one but that anodized GSI aluminum Camp Oven I have is currently my favorite camp oven.
