Re-Cast?
« on: December 13, 2019, 09:59:44 PM »
Can someone tell me what a “Re-Cast” is?
I’m reading some previous threads.
And maybe how to identify such an item.
Sounds like a ‘knock-off’ not original recipe, etc.

A recast is when someone takes an original skillet and uses it as a pattern to make a copy of the original.
As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

And how do you identify a re cast from original?

You can tell by the casting. It is usually very rough. The markings are not sharp like an original.  They are also smaller.  An easy way to tell some is the gate mark is in the wrong place.  Example you see a Griswold skillet which are side gate and the recast may be bottom gated.  Griswold didn't make them bottom gated.
